Must See in the BCN - Ruta del Cementiri de Poblenou Barcelona

This Cemetery was the first to be built outside the walled perimeter that once was Barcelona. The Cemetery was finished in 1775 on land near Mar Bella. This was then a uninhabited part of the cost and Bishop Josep Climent i Avinent placed the cemetery out away from the people for the Health of the city. In the 1800's this burial ground went through many changes. One after Napoleon's Troops destroyed the Cemetery in 1813. An Italian architect Antonio Ginesi's renovation of the space was blessed by the bishop in 1819. By 1849 many sculptors were added as well new work of architects from the first half of the 1800's. Inside this cemetery are the tombs of some of Spain's Rich and Famous. Here lies Writers, Poet/Playwrights, Actors and Comedians, and all kinds of Politician and Aristocrats. There is also the grave of "The Santet" (Francesc Canals Ambrós) who is said to have been a Miracle worker. The sculptor and grounds are beautiful and worth the afternoon to walk and take a look around.

Este cementerio fue el primero en ser construido fuera del perímetro amurallado que alguna vez fue Barcelona. El cementerio fue terminado en 1775 en tierra cerca de la Mar Bella. Esto era entonces una parte deshabitada del costo y obispo Josep Climent Avinent coloqué el cementerio fuera de la gente para la salud de la ciudad. Book Then Movie: On the Road by Jack Kerouac / Libro y película: En el camino de Jack Kerouac

Here we have the classic book of the Beat Generation. In this short read Kerouac invites us into the world of Neal Cassady, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. This little soft cover even introduces the reader to the great William Burroughs. We meet these great men before the height of their individual glory. The reader meets Cassady before he is the driver of Ken Kesey's Bus and leader of the Merry Pranksters in the 60's (The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test-Tom Wolfe) and Ginsberg before Howl. The Old Bull Lee in this book even shows us Burroughs with his wife before the gun shot that made Naked Lunch. This story of the road and what one can find on it, is the first book of its kind. It has been an influence on all kinds of popular culture from the 60's, 70's and on to today. The amount of people that state it as a lighting rod that changed their ways of thinking about life and growing up are to many to mention here. Kerouac took the notes he had from the Road and after receiving a thousand-word rambling letter from Neal Cassady wrote the scroll that later became the book. This scroll was a long one page fury of words, with no paragraphs or even punctuation. Jack used what he called the "Essentials of Spontaneous Prose" to write one of the books that changed the way generations would look at literature and writing. This is what good films are made of, but if one does not read the words first they will miss what these men were meant to teach us.

Jim Jones Revue Rocked at BCN's Music Hall / Jim Jones Revue sacudido en el salón de música de BCN

Anyone that says there is nothing to do on a Tuesday night needs to keep their eyes open or they will miss more shows like this one. A kick back to Rock 'n' Roll of the 50's, The Jim Jones Revue has a sound and style that reminds this reviewer of the great Reverend Horton Heat. With a rock-a-belly look and a heavy guitar lick this UK Garage Rock Band kicked ass at the Music Hall. (Rambla de Catalunya) This group was founded by Jim Jones and Rupert Orton at a rock club in London. Orton the owner of the Not the Same Old Blues Crap Club and brother of folk singer Beth Orton, brought together a tight little band that goes back to the roots of rock 'n' Roll. In 2010 their second album "Burning Your House Down was produced by Jim Sclavunos of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and now Jim Jones and his Revue have powered through with a new record "The Savage Heart." Like any good and crazy rock band these five men are killing themselves with concerts every night till the 15th of December with three more in Spain. The show in the BCN was again brought to you by Producciones Animadas. The way these guys rock it will be a long winter.

"From the Factory to the World" / "‘De la Factory al mundo " Andy Warhol

There are only five days left to see the free Photography Exhibit here in the BCN on the la Rambla. The La Virreina - Centre de la Imatge has a small but well rounded showing of photography from Andy Warhol's Factory in New York City. This was not just a place where Andy made Art into "POP" but also a hang out for Artist, Film Makers and every kind of hanger on in the book. All the stories of the factory tell of the Party's, where yesterday's nobody could become tomorrow's somebody.




The First Factory location, the Decker Building on 33 Union Square West, was right down the street from the famous Club "MAX's Kansas City." This was the place where Andy held his "Round Table" in the VIP room in the back. MAX's help make bands famous and Andy took care of everyone else. If you where a Drag Queen he would put you on stage. If you where a beautiful woman you could be the next "It Girl." And everyone was on camera almost every second. But as John Cale said "It wasn't called the Factory for nothing. It was where the assembly line for the silkscreens happened. While one person was making a silkscreen, somebody else would be filming a screen test. Every day something new." This was a place to be and be seen. Here in the light of Andy's fame there was room for all. This Exhibit in Barcelona just till the end of the week gives one a small look at what those times looked like. The work showing in two small rooms has a lot of work by Andy himself, but much more is made up of work from others that where in the Factory just to document what was happening. The artist Billy Name has many works on the wall because he was the in-house Photographer. He was also the one that made the whole place silver from top to bottom with silver paint and tin foil. This made people on the street call the place the Silver Factory. Then one night Billy dragged a Red couch back to the Factory that became a star in it's own right for the Photos, films, and other "acts" made on its crimson upholstery. We will never know just how it felt to be there when the first "Art Stars" came out of nowhere, and when the who's who just became part of the wallpaper. Andy had a Factory and nothing will ever be the same.

Quedan sólo cinco días para ver la libre fotografía exposición aquí en el BCN en la Rambla de la. El La Virreina - Centre de la Imatge tiene una muestra pequeña pero bien redondeada de la fotografía de la fábrica de Andy Warhol en Nueva York. Andy tenía una fábrica y nunca nada será igual.

Sébastien Tellier fue más entonces anoche viernes en vivo en la sala Apolo de Barcelona. Hizo pleno uso de las luces, el escenario y la multitud para este su primer concierto en España. Si uno desconoce Tellier es en un sello independiente, Record Makers. Su música es una especie de pop electrónico. O podría Rock del llamado Hornby hasta 70 progresivo. Digamos que él tiene su propio tipo de espectáculo. Con una persona mayor entonces vida mantiene la gente feliz. Uno podría conocerlo para el video de "Ville de Cochon", de su nuevo disco "Mi Dios es azul". Este Video tiene más sexo, a continuación, una película en la televisión de cable de noche. Tellier recuerda un nuevo Allen Parsons o un borracho Nick Cave. Sébastien Tellier was more then live last Friday night at the Apolo in Barcelona. He made full use of the lights, stage and the crowd for this his first concert in Spain. If one is unfamiliar Tellier is on an independent label, Record Makers. His music is a kind of electronic pop. Or it could called vamped up 70's Progressive Rock. Let's just say he has his own kind of stage show. With a larger then life persona he keeps the people happy. One might know him for the video of "Cochon Ville," from his new album "My God Is Blue." This Video has more sex in it then a movie on late night cable television. Tellier reminds one of a new Allen Parsons or a drunk Nick Cave. He plays all the instruments on his albums and could be seen as wonderful and strange as a young Donald Fagen, but only time will tell. Some of his songs have gotten attention from producers of TV shows and film directors. Sofia Coppola used the track "Fantino" in her 2003 film "Lost in Translation," and "Look" in her film "Somewhere." Even Daft Punk used one of Tellier's songs for their film "Electroma," and then went on to produce his third album "Sexuality." This interesting concert was brought to the BCN by Producciones Animadas, check the link for more new music all year long. At this show Tellier was drinking shots, smoking more then tobacco, and was in the crowd dancing with everyone's girlfriend. One can see way he has a good following that will only get bigger.
